Professor George Hillow honored by Christopher Newport University Theatre Guild
More than 100 colleagues, friends and well wishers gathered for a reception hosted by the Theatre Guild prior to CNU's Saturday night production of the musical Chicago to honor Professor George Hillow for his outstanding contributions in teaching, directing and scenic design over his 22-year career at the University. He was stunned to receive a hand-written, framed letter from John Kander, the musical's composer. George has been a presence in the Hampton Roads theater scene since he arrived here in 1987 to work at Virginia Stage Company. He has designed sets throughout the area, was honored by Port Folio Magazine as Theater Person of the Year, and his work has been seen at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The Theatre Guild announced that it has created a scholarship in his name.
